The U14 Girls are off to the Ontario Cup for the weekend of May 2 in Niagara Falls.
Friday night the Hurricanes started the tournament against the Orillia Lakers. Playing a full court zone trap the Hurricanes dominated the first half leading 28 - 13. Great team defence was the story of the game as the Hurricanes coasted to a 46 to 30 win. Lily Dixon lead the team in the first half with 12 points while Eva Martins lead the team with 19 points overall and Kaley Verheye hit 5 of her last 6 free throws to score 8 points.
The Hurricanes played at noon on Saturday against SBA - Zongo (Scarborough). They started pressing and jumped out to a 17 - 2 lead and scored a season best 20 points in the quarter. Dixon lead the team with 15 points including two very deep 3 pointers and Verheye (12) and Jordyn Earl (9) lead the team in scoring.
The Oakville Venom were the next opponent with the winner advancing to the gold medal game on Sunday afternoon. The Hurricanes pressed the entire game playing from behind for the entire first half. Early in the third quarter the Huntsville team finally took the lead and with constant pressure wore down the Venom and won 39 - 30. Verheye (13), Dixon (12), Martins (8) and Earl (5) again lead the team in scoring.
Huntsville has beaten South Muskoka twice this season already and will need to beat them on Sunday for a third time to win gold.
